Sometimes I write software in my free time. Here are my current open projects. Enjoy!
Illinois Stop Data
michaeldhart.com/itpss-visualizer
Turns Illinois traffic and pedestrian stop data from 2004 to 2025, which the state publishes as dense PDF tables, into charts. See how often a police department stops Black, Hispanic, and White drivers compared with the community it serves, and how that has changed over time. A rankings view compares every department for a given year and flags small samples and changes in methodology.
The Belvidere Wire
An independent project following 23 public bodies across six Boone County governments. It publishes briefs on their meetings and actions, each linking back to the source documents. Browse by beat, search the archive, or subscribe to the Monday email edition or RSS.
Eyes On Hawkeye
Gathers the city’s public records on the proposed data center south of I-90 into one searchable place. Each record has a plain-language summary, its date, a link to the original, and notes on what it does and doesn’t show, plus a dated timeline.
